Pahaunch
Wala Aadami is a poignant portrayal of the present times
in which we dwell and go out of our ways to adapt ourselves
to the inhuman ways, a society functions, especially in
the corporate sphere. Ajeet, the protagonist, is a victim
of such situations. He is a person caught-up in the rat-race,
all entangled up in the nets & traps of the corporate
world. Manipulation, calculation and the lies overtake
the simplicity and honesty of his character. He functions
like a machine with absolutely no sense of right or wrong.
It is finally Neena, his wife, who makes him realize his
worthlessness and the heavy price that he had to pay to
obtain this status. But, it was too late, he was left
with nothing at all.

CROWD PULLERS
The Eighties of glasnost and perestroika in the
then Soviet Union marked the emergence of a new breed
of playwrights, who moving away from "production drama"
strove to put their characters to the test of daily issues
within homes. Their endeavour was to take theatre away
from the work place , and study behaviour pattern within
families . The issue of personality and family ethics
became a vital concern. Interpersonal relationships were
examined to expose negative aspects of life hitherto kept
under wraps - to study the inner drama of individuals
, their struggles, tensions, and aspirations. Alexender
Gelman's "A Man with Connections" presented
by Kshitij Theatre Group's, in the Hindi translation ,
"Pahaunch
Wala Aadmi" , belongs to this wave of
Russian theatre , Within the limitations of the small
stage at the Russian Cultural Centre, the two hander was
very effectively directed and designed by Bharti Sharma.
Gelmans powerful drama of marital strife is well translated
in Hindi by the cast, and convincingly acted by the two
NSD graduates. If Ahsan's manipulative husband is a burst
of emotional power , Bharti's rebellious wife is a fulminating
volcano. Her sizzling portrayal of Neena's inner turbulence
is played off by Ahsan's conniving belligerence.Don't
miss repeat shows in April.

Pahaunch wala adami : Face to
face with reality
Bharti
Sharma did a splendid job and proved her talent both as
director and actress, by being able to bring out theinner
turmoil, the sub text of the play in an effective manner.
Ahsan Khan, too, was able to create the dialogue with
the audience as Ajit. It was a meaningful production which
shook the audience and left them mum.
